The Vacaville Rotary Club would like to continue to express their appreciation to more brave men and
women who are serving our country.
The club is asking community members to provide names and addresses of service members for
Rotary’s “Adopt a Troop Program.” Packages, which may contain such things as dried fruit, new socks,
gum, hats and candy, are sent as a “thank you” for all their efforts. While several dozen packages have
been sent, Rotary members want to continue to grow the program.
“We are trying to send things that will make their day a little brighter—and to express our sincere
appreciation for all they do,” explains Vacaville Rotary Club organizer, Wanda Barkhurst.
“We have been so gratified when we receive letters back on how significant those packages are to our
soldiers. That’s why we want to send many more of these “gifts from home.”

VA Cemetery Wreath Across America
It’s once again time to begin organizing and collecting for the laying of the holiday wreaths at the
Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon .
This year’s event will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2008.
As in previous years, our goal is to ensure that each gravesite is decorated with a wreath during the
holiday season. This year, we are teaming up with the Wreaths Across America project. The cost of
each wreath is $15 or we can obtain 3 wreaths for $30. Any donation of any amount would be great.
We know this is a huge undertaking, since the cemetery is growing so quickly (Now over 3,000) and it’s
been a tough year economically, to attempt to collect the necessary funds for this project, but we feel
sure that our local and surrounding communities will again come through for this very special memorial
event to honor our veterans. We would like to take this time to extend an invitation to all of you
(individuals, families, community groups, businesses, veterans, etc) to join us on December 13th to
help with the placement of the wreaths and share in the planned program. (The significance of the time
on December 13th is that wreath ceremonies will be held simultaneously around the world then).
